* Are the art prints archival?
My fine art prints are designed to last, and are printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag (acid and lignin-free, archival quality). You will not be disappointed, the print and paper quality is breathtaking and holds the highest details that are contained in the image.
The super matt finish of Hahnemüle Photorag makes this paper one of the most loved papers amongst artists, illustrators & photographers alike. The paper gives muted blacks with even colour reproduction, and excellent detail. The surface has minimal texture with a chalky smooth cotton feel which creates smooth colour gradients. It has a delicate surface, so we recommend extra care when handling.
* What is Giclée? Giclée (pronounced zhee-klay) is a French word meaning “to spray or to squirt”, referring to the way these high-resolution, typically large-format, printers work and has since expanded to refer to the archival quality prints that fine art printing produces. All my art prints are giclée printed.
* What is the Giclée life expectancy?
Average daylight conditions – 80 years
Dark storage in archival box – 200 years
* How to prolong the life of my art print?
heat and atmospheric pollutants are the main concerns but there are more subtle factors to consider when storing artwork. These include adhesives that induce degradation over time and sulphur compounds produced by materials like rubber and wood can initiate fading and instability.
To this end ensure your prints are stored in archival materials including archival acetate sleeves and are placed inside archival storage boxes made from acid free conservation board. Once the print is stored using archival materials it is ideal to find a suitable place away from fluctuating temperatures and potentially high humidity conditions. Avoid attics, basements or next to outside walls which experience more fluctuations in conditions and where condensation frequently occurs.
It is good to check your stored boxes now and then to ensure they are free from pests, moisture, dust and are in good condition.
* How to preserve artwork for display purposes?
The best way to conserve artwork for display purposes is to use conservation framing. Putting the artwork behind glass protects it from the surrounding environment. When mounting for framing it is ideal to use 100% cotton fibre, acid-free unbuffered mount boards. UV protective conservation clear glass also reduces the impact of exposure to bright light sources. Our frames ensure your artwork stands the test of time.
* What materials are the pre-made frames made of?
Picture frames are made in Germany from FSC®-certified wood. The wood comes from sustainably managed forests that meet the criteria of the Forest Stewardship Council. The Oak frames are solid wood from FSC®-certified sources with an Oak veneer. The colors offered are ‘white’ ‘black’ & ‘oak’.
According to the artwork it is possible that I make a choice in the colors I offer for a particular artwork.
The majority of the frame windows are made of edge-ground float glass with a UV filter of approx 45%. For the extra large sizes of A1, 60x80cm and 70x100cm we use a very high quality 3mm clear acrylic to prevent damage during transit. The frames are also equipped with an acid-free insert and a sturdy rear panel.
The hanging type fixture on the reverse panel is ‘nail hanging’.
* Will the frame come with a window mount?
According to the artwork and it’s size and colors it is possible that I make the choice to add a window mount (in a particular color) for a particular artwork. If so, this will me mentioned in the product description.
Window mounts are cut from acid free cardboard. They are 1400 micron which is 1.4mm in thickness. The window is cut to an angle of 45°
Window mounts come in 4 colours:
Black
White
Ivory (subtle off-white)
Cream
You will not be able to choose the color yourself. You can trust me on making the best decision for the artwork.
* Will the colors of the artwork be exactly the same as on my screen?
Please note that the colors may differ slightly from how it appears on your screen due to varying monitor settings.
* Will I get a certificate of authenticity together with my art print?
